Personalizing your Midjourney style with the --p parameter

As your experience with Midjourney grows, you’ll likely look
for ways to make your results feel more aligned with your own creative taste.
The personalization feature is
designed for just that. Instead of repeating the same stylistic details in
every prompt, you can train Midjourney to understand your preferences—and apply
them automatically using the --p
parameter.
In this section, we’ll explore what personalization is, how to unlock it, which models support it, and how to begin using it to generate more consistent and personalized visuals.
Personalization feature and the --p parameter
Midjourney’s personalization
feature helps tailor image generation to reflect your unique creative
preferences. Instead of repeating the same style cues in every prompt, you can
train Midjourney to understand your taste—and let it influence your outputs
automatically using the --p
parameter.
What is personalization?
Every prompt you submit contains subtle stylistic cues—whether you intend it or not. By default, Midjourney interprets those cues based on general community preferences. But with personalization, you can guide the model to reflect your own creative style.
Midjourney builds this understanding by asking you to rank image pairs. Through this process, the system learns your preferences—such as:
- Mood and lighting
- Color tone and texture
- Composition and subject focus
Once you’ve completed enough rankings, a personal style profile is unlocked and can be used to guide future generations.
This is a simplified, user-friendly version of fine-tuning—no coding or dataset creation is needed.
Where to find it
You can access this feature by clicking “Personalize” on the left sidebar of the Midjourney web interface. This opens the Personalization Dashboard, where you’ll see a preview area, a “Personalization Locked” status (if you haven’t yet unlocked it), and tools to begin training your profile.

How to unlock personalization
To begin using the personalization system:
- Go to the Personalization tab on the Midjourney website.
- Click “Create Ranked Profile.”
- Start ranking image pairs—choose which image better reflects your aesthetic taste.
- After completing a sufficient number of rankings (typically around 200), your profile will be unlocked.
Note: You’ll need to create separate profiles for each model version (V6, V7, Niji 6)
How to apply personalization
Once personalization is unlocked, you can add --p
to any prompt:
Example:
A futuristic city skyline at sunset, --p
Adding --p
tells Midjourney to apply your
personal style profile—affecting everything from composition and tone to
atmosphere and detail.
Some additional notes:
- In V7, personalization is enabled by default once unlocked
-
In V6 and Niji 6,
personalization must be explicitly triggered using
--p
- You can toggle between different profiles depending on the model you're using
Personalization adds a valuable
layer of control to your creative workflow in Midjourney. Whether you're aiming
for visual consistency across a project or simply want results that feel more
like “you,” taking the time to rank images and apply the --p
parameter can make a difference. As the feature continues to evolve,
it offers an increasingly intuitive way to turn inspiration into images—without
starting from scratch each time.
