Organizing and managing your generated images

As your image collection grows in Midjourney, organizing your work becomes just as important as generating it. Fortunately, the web interface offers a well-structured Organize page that gives you the tools to keep your creative output clear, categorized, and easy to revisit.
The Organize section is more than just a gallery. It introduces a set of features designed specifically for managing high volumes of images:
- Folders allow you to manually group images by project, theme, or visual direction. You can also create folder groups to structure your library more deeply.
- Search lets you instantly find images by keyword or prompt phrase. You can then save frequently used searches as Saved Searches, which behave like smart folders that update automatically.
- Filter helps you narrow your view by model version, aspect ratio, image type, and more—ideal for reviewing specific outputs or comparing experiments.
- View Options give you control over how your images are displayed—grid, list, or compact—so you can browse in the way that suits your workflow.
- Profile filters can also be used to show images generated using specific prompt styles. We’ll cover this in more detail later.
In this section, we’ll walk through each of these tools step by step, starting with how to access the Organize page and create folders. At the end, we’ll also show how favoriting images in Discord can link back to your gallery in the web interface.
Opening the Organize section
To get started, log into your Midjourney account on the web at midjourney.com, and click Organize in the left sidebar.
This page displays your entire image history, arranged in reverse chronological order. You’ll see a clean gallery layout with thumbnails of your creations. A folder icon appears at the top of this view—clicking it will open the folders panel.

This panel is where you can create new folders, browse existing ones, and even organize folders into groups for added structure.
Creating folders and organizing images
Midjourney’s folder system works much like folders on your desktop. It allows you to manually sort your images by theme, project, or visual direction.
Here’s how to create a folder:
- Open the folder panel by clicking the folder icon.
- Click New Folder, give it a name, and press Enter.

Once you’ve created a folder, you can start adding images to it.
- Drag and drop images from the gallery directly into the folder.
- You can select multiple images with the Shift key.
You can also rename or delete folders using the three-dot menu beside each folder name. Don’t worry—deleting a folder won’t delete the images themselves; it just removes the folder structure.
If you want to go a step further, you can organize folders into groups by dragging one folder over another. This is useful when you're managing complex projects or ongoing themes.

Generating images directly inside folders
One of the newer features in Midjourney is the ability to generate new images directly inside a selected folder. This helps keep your projects organized from the start.
- Select a folder from the panel to open it.
- Use the Imagine bar at the top of the screen as usual.
- Midjourney will display a “Generating in [Folder Name]” indicator beneath your prompt.
Any images generated while this banner is active will be saved directly to that folder.
To exit this mode, click the “X” next to the folder name under the Imagine bar.

This feature is especially helpful when working on specific deliverables like concept batches, character designs, or promotional series—everything stays where it belongs from the start.
Using filters to narrow results
To the right of the search bar, you’ll find the Filter button. Clicking it opens a set of controls that help you refine your image gallery even further. You can filter your images by:
- Model version (e.g., V6, V5.2)
- Aspect ratio (e.g., 1:1, 3:4, 16:9)
- Image type (e.g., Remix, Edit, or Blend)
- Tuner profile used in generation
You can use one filter or combine several to narrow the view. For example, you could filter by V6
and 3:2
to see only widescreen images made with the latest model version.

Filters can be applied on top of a search keyword, giving you precise control over the results. This is useful for reviewing specific projects or exporting themed collections.
Changing the view layout
Next to the Filter button is the View Options menu. This lets you adjust how images are displayed in the Organize gallery:
- Grid view: Shows a compact grid of thumbnails. Ideal for visual browsing.
- List view: Displays each image in a row with details like the full prompt, generation date, and version.
- Compact view: A tighter layout for fast scanning.
You can also sort images by date created or prompt length, depending on what you’re looking for.

Customizing the view makes it easier to manage large collections, especially when reviewing prompt variations or preparing exports.
Searching for images using keywords
Once your image collection grows into the hundreds or more, quickly finding what you’ve created becomes essential. The Search bar at the top of the Organize page is the fastest way to locate specific outputs based on the original prompt content.
The search works by matching any part of the prompt you used to generate the image. For example:
- Typing
"koala"
will surface all images with that phrase anywhere in the prompt. - Searching
"--ar 3:2"
can help you find images generated at a specific aspect ratio. - You can also enter partial terms like
"cyber"
to match broader prompts such as “cyberpunk city,” “cybernetic suit,” or “cyber world.”
The results update instantly, showing a filtered view of all images that include the entered terms.

This makes it easy to resurface old creations without needing to remember when or where you saved them. It’s especially helpful when used in combination with folders or saved searches.
Saved searches for dynamic organization
In addition to manual folders, Midjourney offers Saved Searches—a way to automatically group images based on prompt keywords. These act like smart folders.
- Enter a keyword or phrase in the search bar (e.g., “steampunk helmet”).
- Once results appear, click Save Search.
- Name your search and confirm.

The system will continually update this group as you generate new images that match the same prompt content.
Saved searches are great for tracking recurring themes, client keywords, or personal styles without manually managing folders.
Favoriting images in Discord
If you're generating images via Discord, you can still flag standout results by favoriting them. On Discord, click the ❤️ icon below a generated image.

That image will automatically appear in the Favorites folder on the Midjourney web interface.
This is a quick way to mark successful outputs while you’re actively working in Discord, especially if you want to revisit or upscale them later using the web interface.
Midjourney’s folder system transforms image generation into a more organized and purposeful experience. Whether you’re structuring large-scale projects or just curating a personal archive, the ability to create folders, use saved searches, and generate directly inside collections gives you full control over your creative output.
